The Engineering Design Center (EDC) is one of GE Infrastructure global engineering sites, created in 2000 based on an Engineering Alliance Agreement between GE Aircraft Engines and Warsaw Institute of Aviation. EDC consists of two companies: GE Company Polska Ltd. and Warsaw Institute of Aviation. Currently EDC is working on the products of three GE Infrastructure businesses: GE Aviation, GE Energy, GE Oil&Gas. www.edcpolska.pl

Requirements:

  • BS in metallurgy, materials science or other materials related area
  • minimum 5 years experience in production of large steel and ductile iron sand castings
  • strong understanding of welding technology used for large steel components
  • strong understanding of ultrasonic, radiographic and magnetic particle inspection techniques
  • ability to work independently
  • excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • knowledge of European and USA casting and welding specifications
desired:
  • MS in metallurgy, materials science or other materials related area
  • experience with solidification modeling (ProCast or Magma software preferred)
  • experience with investment casting processes
  • experience managing materials programs with respect to schedule and budget
  • experience with production of Turbine/Generator or Aircraft Engine components
  • experience with analytical evaluation of high temperature creep
  • experience with correlation of creep properties to steel microstructure
  • knowledge of statistical experimental methods
  • knowledge of worldwide casting and welding specification systems
  • proven records for DMP activities
  • failure analysis experience

Duties:

  • provide metallurgical support for global (mainly European) sourcing of large ferritic steel castings and fabrications
  • direct effort to ensure that the best materials and production methods are implemented for manufacture of large (steam, gas and wind) turbines and generators
  • create robust manufacturing processes at supplier facilities
  • resolve materials related issues at suppliers and in GE manufacturing facilities
  • direct execution of material and process qualifications at global GE manufacturing sites and global suppliers
  • write and interpret specifications for materials and processes
  • create, manage and perform materials development programs to support innovative technology introduction in new generations of turbines
  • perform failure analyses
