Vattenfall Research and Development AB is a center for R&D work performed by one of the most exciting energy groups in Europe. We conduct development projects in the Nordic countries, Poland, Germany, UK and in the Benelux and have a total of some 230 employees. We are in an interesting phase of development with a growing internationalisation of our activities.

We are now looking for two R&D engineers towards R&D in Combustion, Materials technology or Chemical Engineering.

Both persons shall have a level of education equivalent to a M.Sc. or corresponding competence, related to Combustion, Materials technology or Chemical Engineering. A higher academic degree is a merit. For both positions a minimum of five years relevant experience in his profession is a requirement as well experience of R&D. The competence profile for the applicants to the open positions can be within any field relevant for thermal power plants, e.g. Chemical Process Engineering, Thermal Engineering or Process Control towards thermal Power Plants.

English will be the working language for the positions and therefore good skills in English, both spoken and in writing, is a demand. One of the reasons for opening the branch office is of course to establish a close contact with the local business units and therefore fluent Polish is also a prerequisite.

For all the positions a broad network of contacts is important, both internal and external. For applicants today working outside the Vattenfall group a focus will initially therefore be on building the internal network. The positions will include to initiate and establish assignments and to take part in marketing of R&D projects.

The R&D engineers needs to have a sound potential for analysing and evaluating and choosing between different courses of action and solving technically complex problems in the areas in which he/she is actively involved. He/she is driven in their desire to solve problems, including support from complementary competences. The positions will lead to some international travelling, mainly to the different countries where Vattenfall have operation.

Both persons will be involved in different Research and Development projects within the Thermal Area. The work will mainly be within one or more of the following areas:

• Carbon Capture Technologies, e.g. the integration of post combustion techniques in power plants or the development of the OxyFuel concept
• Support the business units in pre-studies and technology selection in refurbishment and new investment projects
• Combustion and plant optimisation in existing boilers, e.g. based on advanced process control, heat balance calculations or fluid dynamic calculations.
• Evaluation of the technical limitations and economical consequences of increasing the use of renewable fuels, e.g. through co-combustion or erection of new biomass based boilers

The persons will through the work collaborate with others, both within Vattenfall Research and Development AB and at the business units, and therefore a good capacity to compromise and achieve common solutions is important. He/she must seek support from others when required and supports others with his/her own competence.

The position as senior R&D Engineer can involve leading projects and thereby direct assignments with 1-5 persons involved. The persons must in a satisfactory way handle quality assurance, project economy, leadership, communication, reporting and follow-up. The project execution is following the PROPS system wherefore prior knowledge of that or similar project leading systems is a merit.
